Vintage Bluebill Duck Decoy, Central NY State, unknown carver, hollow body

Description

Here's an old bluebill drake from central New York state.  He's a homemade/handmade beast with a body hollowed out from the bottom with a sheet of tin nailed over the bottom.  It looks as if he was made by someone who followed their own intuition rather than anyone else's directions or example.  Measures 16" long and has tack eyes and a keel and there are a couple of chips off the top of his tail.  The head has been off and reattached long ago (before I acquired it) but this is not surprisingf due to the thinness of the neck just below his head.  I can't tell if its original paint over a grey base coat, or a repaint.  Anyhow, it has a wonderful alligatored surface, it's obviously an old decoy.
