    Description

This is a BEAUTIFUL and elegant pair of Canvasback decoys, circa early '60's.  They are carved in the style of 1936 Ward Bros. decoys but are NOT copies--much more pronounced/bigger/bolder heads, wider and more plump bodies, and totally different paint schemes.  Original paint in unique detail.  The basic feathered paint patterns have mellowed with age.  Slight neck seats.  Beautifully carved and turned heads.  Original glass eyes.  Carved nostrils and bill delineations.  Plump bodies with gentle cambered back to rounded chime and over-hanging tails.  Inward sloping breasts.  Without neck cracks.  These decoys were discovered on the Eastern Shore of MD in covered in layers of disgusting cobwebs and spider "poop."  This mess was gently removed without trying to wash or scrub decoys clean.  They have incredible shelf-life and were once rigged for use.  One has to hold and admire these gorgeous antique decoys to really appreciate the effort, skill, and artistic creativity that went into their design and production.  (At one time, both of these sustained a few rodent chew marks that were professionally repaired and restored by Spencer Tinkham, nationally noted for his amazing restoration work.)
